Eye Safety at Home

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 0 comments

Believe it or not, the average home is full of dangers that often go unnoticed. In fact, accidents involving common household products cause 125,000 eye injuries each year.
Ninety percent of these eye injures can be prevented through understanding, safety practices and the use of proper eye protection.
You can reduce the risks of eye injuries for yourself and other family members by using this simple checklist for different areas of your home:
Indoor Safety
* Use safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs.
* Provide lights and handrails to improve safety on stairs.
* Pad or cushion sharp corners and edges of furnishing and home fixtures.
* Install cabinet and drawer locks in kitchens and bathrooms. * Store personal-use items (cosmetics, toiletry products), kitchen utensils, and desk supplies where they are out of reach for children.
Outdoor Safety
* Inspect and remove debris from lawns before mowing.
* Keep paints, pesticides, fertilizers, and similar products properly stored in a secure area.
* Keep your tools in good condition; damaged tools should be repaired or replaced.
* Wear safety glasses or dust goggles to protect against flying particles, and chemical goggles to guard against exposure to fertilizers and pesticides.
Chemical Safety
* Wear chemical safety goggles when using hazardous solvents and detergents.
* Read and follow all manufacturer instructions and warning labels.
* Do not mix cleaning agents.
* Know that regular eyeglasses don't always provide enough protection.
Kids' Safety
* Avoid toys with sharp or rigid points, shafts, spikes, rods, and dangerous edges.
* Keep toys intended for older children away from younger children.
* Avoid flying toys and projectile-firing toys; these pose a danger to all children, particularly those under five years old.
* Be aware of items in playgrounds and play areas that pose potential eye hazards.
* Keep BB guns away from kids.
* Use occupant restraints such as infant and child safety seats, booster seats, safety belts, and shoulder harnesses in cars.

How to Get the Best Haircut and Style
Have you ever come home from the salon in tears because you feel that your hair was ruined, and worst of all -- you paid for it? It's probably happened to just about all of us at some time or another but you can prevent it in the future. On a quest to the most fabulous haircut and style just for you, here are important five steps to ensure you get just what you're looking for.
Choose a Reputable Stylist
Seek out others for referrals. Ask you friends with great-looking hair which salon they go to and the name of their stylist. More important, ask those who have similar hair texture, thickness and styles that you prefer. If you see a stranger whose hair you adore, don't be shy. Flatter that person with compliments and get the information you need. Most people are happy to share their stylist and can often get discounts for giving referrals.
Take Along Pictures
It's not always easy to describe what haircut and style you want. Your description may bring up something completely different in the stylist's mind, leading to a bad cut that can take months or even years to recover from.
Salons are full of magazines and styling guides for a reason. If you bring along a picture from home or select one from an in-house pictorial, you're more likely to get just what you want. Be reasonable. Not all cuts and styles may work with your hair texture and some can accentuate facial flaws. The best insurance is to bring along a few pictures and ask the professional for advice.
Be Precise
If you want your long hair to stay long, say just that. If you just want a trim, tell him or her how much hair you want cut and make a show with your fingers. Don't be reluctant to interrupt while your hair is being cut. If you just sit there, knowing you're on the wrong track, you'll kick yourself later on. A stylist who asks plenty of questions about how you want your hair to look is one that wants to make sure that you walk out happy.
Hair styling - Watch Closely
Don't get into heavy chatting and then discover that you have no idea how to achieve that fantastic look. A great hairstyle is one you'll want to replicate over and over so it's important to watch carefully and see how it's done. Again, ask questions and you can pick up some good tips for manipulating your hair into the style that's just perfect for you.
Be Decisive
There are times when you're just not happy with the cut. If you are aware of this before you leave the salon, make it known. If the salon is not busy, this may be able to be corrected then and there. If you feel rushed, tell the stylist and let him or her know that you may be in touch soon. If you discover that the haircut is not to your liking after you get home, make another appointment to follow up. After all, you wanted to look better, right? The best way to do this is communicate with the professional.

Let it grow.long hair

My experience with short hair came very suddenly when I was about 8. Before then I had very long, thick, and wavy hair that my mom insisted on fixing every day. I would sit facing the tank of the toilet so I could hold on to it. I know this sounds a little crazy but without holding on for dear life I would have ended up on the floor. I swear that my mom secretly lifted weights and worked out just so she could get my ponytails and French braids in nice and tight. And, as you can imagine from an 8 year old, the screams ensued.
On one particularly noisy morning I was warned that if I screamed one more time, we would be going to the salon to get my hair all cut off. Just as soon as my mom finished with that phrase, out came a scream. So off we went to the salon and I came home with chin length hair. From there it just went shorter and shorter.
Since that day 20 some odd years ago, I have been officially "growing my hair out". The longest it has gotten is about shoulder length and the shortest is about 1 ½ inches all over with razor lines cut into designs across the back (hey, it was the eighties!). So I can honestly say that I have a huge amount of experience in growing out hair. Take it from me, it is not easy.
Sure, growing hair in general is easy. Hair grows on average about ½ inch every month. Nutrition and health play a great deal in how fast or slow your locks actually grow. If you are lucky enough to be taking prenatal vitamins, watch out, your hair and nails will grow faster than you may be ready for. When I was pregnant I had my hair cut at least every 4 weeks just to maintain some sort of hairstyle. If you have very poor nutrition your hair may still grow but it may be much weaker than normal healthy hair, possibly breaking off very easily.
long bangs - hair over face We've already determined that proper nutrition is important to growing your do out, the second step is patience. Lots and lots of patience. This is the step that has returned me to the salon time and time again. Just as soon as my hair gets to that "ugly" stage I run and get it trimmed. So how do you overcome that stage and make it through? First of all, have a goal in mind and not just a finished goal but intermediate ones as well. If your mind is set only on having those long, wavy, flowing styles you may lose your way when things start getting tough.
Just as a baby goes through many physical milestones before she finally takes those first wobbly steps, your hairstyle will also have to reach several milestones. Go to the grocery store or the nearest newsstand and pick up a couple of hair magazines. Find several styles that will look good with your hair texture and face shape. Choose one that is about 2 inches longer than what your style is now, take the picture with you the next time you go to your stylist. Even if your hair is not yet that length your stylist can give you a cut that can gracefully grow into your desired style. Keep doing that each time you reach your goal length and before long, you'll be there.
Now, just because you are trying to make your hair longer it does not mean that you should no longer get it cut until it is flowing to your waist. Regular trims are the key. Without them, styles can quickly get overgrown and out of control. Maintain a style and you will at least look good between your pixie cut and your vixen look. Be sure to get a style with a lot of texture, that way if it starts to get a little shaggy you won't look like a shi tzu dog who hasn't been groomed for 2 months.
Don't expect those long locks to be flowing immediately after you declare your intentions to grow, unless you have the bucks to pay for extensions! It takes time, lots and lots of time and patience. Eat well, trim well and grow well. Short hair can be beautiful but it is not for everyone, so if you realize on your way home from the salon that you are NOT Halle Berry, have no fear-let it grow, let it grow, let it grow!

Resolve Conflicts at Work
Conflicts at work can be stressful and counterproductive for everyone involved. Learn to confront the other person and resolve the situation:
Decide whether you want to confront the person who is bothering you. It is usually better to air grievances in the open than to let them fester.
Speak to the other person calmly, politely and rationally. Focus on the situation and facts, avoiding gossip and personal attacks.
Be careful not to express hostility in your posture, facial expression or tone. Be assertive without being aggressive.
Listen to the other person carefully: What is he or she trying to say? Be sure you understand his or her position.
Express interest in the other person's statements. You can acknowledge his or her ideas without necessarily agreeing or submitting. Saying, "I understand that you feel this way. Here's how I feel," provides the needed acknowledgment.
Communicate clearly what it is that you want, offering positive suggestions and recommendations.
Speak to your supervisor if a problem with a difficult co-worker seriously threatens your work - but avoid whining.
Oh and...:
Deal with problematic personalities by trying to understand what motivates their behavior, then tailoring your actions to work with that personality type. Once you grasp why people behave as they do, you will be able to interact with them more effectively. For example, be firm with bullies at work - don't allow them to pressure you into doing anything unwanted, and be forceful in your opinions, but act with a bit of caution.
Around complainers, avoid. acting too sympathetic if you feel their complaints are weakly supported; instead, ask what sorts of actions they plan to take to change the situation. Squarely ask them what it is they want.

Cool Makeup Tips During Summer

The kiss of summer bestows nature's shining secret to your face as long as you do not let it dry your skin and cause those tiny summer wrinkles to appear. Try some of the suggestions given below to revive and to sustain the natural beauty of your complexion and to add that cool, clear appearance, which is the main asset of a summer complexion.

During the hot summer months your complexion needs extra care at night in order to counteract the drying effects of the sun and the wind during the day. Particularly, if you are above 25 you should regularly use a moisturizing cream at bedtime. Apply this cream daily in the night if you want to cherish the youthful loveliness of a flawless complexion.

To make your own moisturizing cream take four almonds and soak them in enough milk to cover them. Let them remain thus for a whole night, next morning peel and grind them to a smooth paste. Now mix in two tablespoons of milk cream and a few drops of essence of rose. Store in a bottle and keep it in the fridge.

As the temperature rises in the hot months, extra cleaning is necessary for those of you who have greasy complexion. Bathe your face four to five times daily with clear water and a good soap suited to your complexion. This will help cleanse the openings of grease glands and loosen excess secretion. Rinse off every trace of soap with plenty of hot, then cold water. Cold water constricts the pores and minimizes the entrance of dust and dirt into the oil glands. Now splash an astringent lotion on the face. In a bowl of chilled water squeeze in a juice of a sour lime. Pat dry. Remember to cleanse the skin thoroughly with milk cream blended into a thin paste with gram flour. Steam the face once every week in order to open clogged pores.

Another big problem of summer is excessive perspiration and body odour. Excessive perspiration usually occurs on the palms, soles, under the breast, forehead and scalp. It is often accompanied by offensive body odour which is largely due to the decomposition of sweat and contamination with micro-organisms. Under unclean circumstances, micro-organisms flourish giving rise to unsightly boils. Therefore, if you suffer from foulsmelling perspiration, you should pay special attention to your personal cleanliness. You should take bath twice daily with soap and plenty of water. Certain areas of the body (where perspiration is excessive) should be dusted liberally with boric powder mixed with an equal quantity of a good-scented talcum powder. If your feet perspire profusely then use salicylic powder on them or you can soak them for 15 minutes in a dilute solution of potassium permanganate in order to prevent infection and minimise 'body odour. Refrain from wearing nylon or woollen socks. Wear cotton socks and shoes which have no rubber soles on them. To check pespiration of the hands wash them well, dry them, then rub them with a few drops of witch-hazel.

Infants and toddlers should be bathed in the afternoon in water to which a few drops of Cologne have been added. Dust their bodies libearlly with equal quantity of scented powder and boric powder. For top-to-toe freshness pay proper attention to your hair. It is important that you should wash your hair at least twice a week. Freshen your hair in between by sprinkling some eau de Cologne before setti ng them. Revive tired eyes by wrapping crushed pieces of ice in a piece of cloth and applying it to closed eyelids. Then relax for 10 minutes in a dark room. You can use cucumber slices instead of ice cubes.

Ensure that feeling of freshness by keeping yourself and all your personal belongings, scrupulously clean. Your dresses and other clothes should be starched and well-pressed for a neat appearance. Keep pads soaked in cologne between your clothes and they will exude a lovely fragrance. When ironing your clothes, place a pad of cotton soaked- in either Cologne rose water or your favourite perfume by your side and run the pad on your clothes before ironing. Your pleasantly fragant clothes will make you feel cool and garden-fresh. Do away with all your nylons, georgettes and heavy silks and bring out the soft wispy chanderies, cool violes, crisp organdies and light cotton dresses in the softest of shades. Avoid wearing too many accessories.

During this season your makeup should be reduced to the minimum and the accent should be on naturalness. Avoid using foundation creams and lotions of any sort because heat may cause them 'running down' your face. Use a lipstick of pastel shade and use rouge sparingly. Finish your makeup with a light puff of powder.

Be extravagant with flowers. Use plenty of them in your hair. You can also tuck a few flowers of mogra in your bra for their heavenly smell. Spray on your favourite perfume and now if you go out you will feel as pleasantly fresh and cool as though you were atop a hill station in the summer season.

Finish your makeup with a light puff of powder .

Regular Care Of Hair:
Taking care of hair is in fact much the same as taking care of skin.An effective hair care discipline involves cleansing, toning and conditioning routines carried out with religious regularity.
1.Care Of Oily Hair And Scalp Condition:
The principle of care for oily hair and scalp condition is the same as used for oily skin condition. The routine aims at removing the excess oil and to exfoliate skin cells which clogs up and suffocate the hair follicles in our scalp. The emphasis is laid on cleansing and toning routines.Since the hair has to be washed as frequently as it gets dirty and oily, a natural shampoo on a formulation of herbs such as amla, shikakai, trijla is ideal.Massaging hair and scalp is important for the well being as well as good growth of the hair. For dry hair, scalp massaging with oil is recommended. For oily hair massaging with toning lotion is suitable.
Home-made Cosmetics For Oily Hair:
A.Take some dry soap nuts(reetha) and soak them in water overnight.Mash them in the morning and strain the soapy solution.Add a tsp of shikakai powder and wash your hair.
If you are unable to make the shampoo cleanser at home, use this infusion recipe.Prepare it and mix in the shampoo you use.
B.To make the infusion, boil two handful of mint leaves in one and a half glass of water for 20 minutes.Strain the solution and mix in a 300ml bottle of shampoo.
Toning Lotion For Oily Hair:
Mix a tbsp of Malt Vinegar in a glass of water.Add a pinch of salt in it.Use 2 tbsps of it on your scalp and massage it with your finger tips twice a week.Leave the lotion on for one hour.Rinse with cool water, brush and set your hair.
2.Care For Dry Hair:
Dry hair tends to be thin and rough. It is susceptible to tangles, damage, breakage and split ends. The primary aim is to replenish the oil and the moisture in the hair.
Home-made Cosmetic Care For Dry Hair:
Below are given few natural recipes that are time-tested.
The Gentle Cleanser:
Beat an egg in a cup of the skimmed milk. When the foam becomes consistent, rub it into the scalp.Leave it on for 5 minutes.Rinse the hair thoroughly with water.Carry out this routine twice a week.
The Protein Conditioner:
Beat one tbsp of castor oil, one tbsp of glycerine, one tbsp of cider vinegar and a tsp of mild herbal shampoo.Apply it on scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes.Rinse with clear water.
A Special Massage OilToner
Buy a bottle of castor oil or coconut oil.Add a tsp of lavender essential oil in it.Heat a little and massage it gently on your scalp at night.Rinse or shampoo it out in the morning.Follow this routine at least twice a week.

c.Pull in your stomach muscles and lift your stomach off the floor.
d.Slowly lower upper back and shoulders to floor to the original position.Relax.
e.Repeat.
Exercise 2:
a.Hold your arms straight in front of you, at shoulder level.
b.Bring your hands slowly, towards your shoulders clenching your hands as though you are pulling something strenuously.
c.Repeat 5 times.
What Can Exercise Do For Your Breasts?
Breasts contain no muscle but only fat cells, milk-ducts and glands, held together in a web of soft connective tissue. So by exercising you cannot increase your bust size.Neither will exercising directly reduce a heavy bust. This is especially true if your breasts are large but your body weight is what it should be.If, however you are over-weight, a weight reducing diet combined with regular exercises, will help you to reduce your weight as well as your bust size.
Exercising, however has several other advantages as well; it tones up the muscles on which the breast tissue lies. So, if your bust-line measures less than what you would like, exercising would give you a firmer and a more prominent line, making your bust appear larger.Similarly, if a heavy bust is your problem, you would lose some of the droop(which can spoil your shape) and gain a firmer contour, though there would be no loss of inches.
Apart from the exercises which we have already mentioned, swimming is a superb exercise for bust shape. It exercises the " breast muscles" considerably against resistance of the water- this really can do wonders to your shape.

Fashion that Flatters Your Breasts

It's tiring, isn't it? Constantly comparing your body to others'? How many times have you wished you were taller, shorter, thinner, curvier? Women are on a constant quest to change themselves. Breast size in particular is a sensitive subject for many of us. We either curse that we were born with more or wish that we had more. But consider this: Many of us don't realize that the clothes we wear can make all the difference in the way we feel about our bodies. It's time we embraced and appreciated our bodies the way they are. Here's how to flatter your figure, not fight it!
* T-Shirts
* Blouses & Shirts
* Sweaters
* Dresses
* Jackets
T-Shirts
Isn't it amazing how hard it is to find a great fitting T-shirt? Such a basic item should a breeze to find. But with so many necklines, sleeve lengths and styles out there, this can be a tough task to accomplish. Needless to say, your first step is finding a great fitting bra. Here's what else you need to know:
Full Bust
* Best necklines are scoop necks and V-necks. They break up the expanse of the chest area and draw attention away from your bust. Stick with solid colors.
* Best sleeve lengths are cap sleeve, long sleeve and three-quarter sleeve. They camouflage larger arms that sometimes accompany larger chests. * Avoid high, round neck and square neck T-shirts. They make full busts look like one bulky mass. Also avoid sleeveless and oversized T-shirts.
Small Bust
* Best necklines are high necks and asymmetrical necklines. They broaden the shoulders and create the illusion of a larger bust. Printed tees are also flattering for small chests.* Best sleeve lengths are sleeveless. Women with small chests tend to have slimmer arms so the goal is to draw attention to them and away from the chest.
* Avoid low scoop-neck tops or deep V-neck tops with three-quarter sleeves. They accentuate bony chests and draw attention to the fact that you have a small bust. The V acts as an arrow to the bust and the sleeves accentuate small arms.

Layered hairstyles are one of the most popular hairstyles these days. This style works best on straight hair, preferrably long hair.
Layered hairstyles look great by bringing more volume to your hair and because of the layers, you can play around with colors and highlights.
Layered haircuts result from having the hair cut into a number of layers, the shortest being the uppermost, with length increasing at the ends.
Take a look at these layered hairstyles - click to see large pictures:

Two colors are also popular - a darker base color and a light shade to appear as highlights.

Yoga is one of the six systems of Indian philosophy. It had been transmitted orally through the generations like most of Indian philosophy and culture. It was sometime between the fifth and second century B.C. that a Sage by the name of Patanjali penned down this subject in his treatise the Yoga Darshana also known as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This forms the basic text of yoga. The word "yoga" originates from the sanskrit root yuj which means "Union". On the spiritual plane, it means union of the Individual Self with the Universal Self; while, for the man of this world, it is the union of the physical, physiological, mental, emotional and intellectual bodies leading one to live a integrated, purposeful, useful and noble life.
Eating the right kind of food is an important element in achieving a physical, mental and emotional balance. In yogic literature foods that are beneficial to us are said to be Sattvic, or pure. Impure foods that can upset our physical, emotional, or intellectual balance are referred to as being in the categories. Tamasic (stale or rotten) and Rajasic (stimulating). You should avoid these foods. Below are a few guidelines you can incorporate while planning your diet to achieve optimum health.
Choosing Sattvic Foods
Sattvic foods form the ideal diet, being nourishing and easy to digest. They create new energy and a clear, calm mind, enabling us to use all our mental, physical, and spiritual talents. Sattvic products include cereals, fresh fruit and vegetables, natural fruit juice, milk butter, beans, honey, and pure water.
The yogic-diet is said to be lacto-vegetarian, which means that it is made up entirely of non-animal foods with the exceptions of milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter eggs and honey. Evidence suggests that a predominantly vegetarian diet is good for our health. Meat proteins takes a long time to digest and tends to be difficult for the kidneys and liver to eliminate. Switching to a vegetarian diet isn't hard as long as you have tasty alternatives. And you don't have to do it overnight. First cut down on red meat, then gradually eliminate it from your diet. As you find other vegetarian foods you enjoy, you can gradually give up poultry, fish, and eggs. You'll join the ranks of thousands of new vegetarians, many of whom have changed their diets for health reasons now that flesh foods have been linked to cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, and so on.

The following day you can add rice, or another grain, and some steamed vegetables. After this you can return to eating normally.Tips on avoiding tamasic foods
Foods that are stale, tasteless, unripe, over ripe, or putrified are Tamasic. They poison the body, sap our energy, and dull the intellect. Tamasic foods include meat and fish, mushrooms, and foods that have been frozen, preserved, tinned, over-cooked, or re-heated. Foods that have been fermented, such as vinegar, are Tamasic, as are all drugs and alcohol. Eating too much is also considered to be Tamasic.
Tips on avoiding Rajasic Foods
Onions and garlic, tobacco, eggs, coffee, tea, chillies and other strong spices, and foods that are sour, acid, or bitter are all Rajasic. Chocolate, white sugar, white flour, and most prepared and convenience foods are also Rajasic to a lesser extent. All these substances excite the passions and over-stimulate the mind, making it difficult to control. Eating too fast and eating too many combinations of foods is also Rajasic.
A true Yogic diet is rather strict, and not everyone wants to or can follow its rules. But even applying a few of these suggestions to your diet will enhance your well being.
Yoga is considered as an effective medicine for common ailments such as periods pain, mild back pain, digestive complaints, insomnia, upper back and neck and shoulder tension, high blood pressure and arthritis.

The Importance of Women's Health

oman's health is her total well-being, not determined solely by biological factors and reproduction, but also by effects of work load, nutrition, stress, war and migration, among others” (van der Kwaak, 1991).1
Women's health issues have attained higher international visibility and renewed political commitment in recent decades. While targeted policies and programs have enabled women to lead healthier lives, significant gender-based health disparities remain in many countries. With limited access to education or employment, high illiteracy rates and increasing poverty levels are making health improvements for women exceedingly difficult.
Health-related challenges continue. Many of the modest gains in women's health realized in recent decades are now threatened or have been reversed due to war, economic instability and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Basic health care, family planning and obstetric services are essential for women – yet they remain unavailable to millions. Gender-equitable approaches to health are needed to enable women's full participation in the planning and delivery of health services.
The health of families and communities are tied to the health of women – the illness or death of a woman has serious and far-reaching consequences for the health of her children, family and community.
The slogan, “Healthy Women, Healthy World” embodies the fact that as custodians of family health, women play a critical role in maintaining the health and well being of their communities.2
* Maternal conditions are leading causes of death and disability among women.3 More than 99 percent of the estimated 536,000 maternal deaths each year occur in the developing world.4
* Every year, about 10 million women endure life-threatening complications during pregnancy and childbirth, sometimes leading to long term disability.5, 6
* Globally, women comprise half of the adults living with HIV/AIDS – in sub-Saharan Africa, the proportion rises to 61 percent.7 A woman affected by HIV/AIDS is plunged further into poverty, losing the ability to provide for herself and her children.
* Early and unwanted childbearing, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy-related illnesses and deaths account for a significant proportion of the burden of illness experienced by women – especially in low-income countries.8
* Nearly all maternal deaths are preventable through timely prenatal and postnatal care, skilled birth attendance during delivery and the availability of emergency care to deal with complications. The health benefits of spacing and limiting births for mothers and children with family planning services are well known.
* Millennium Development Goal 5 focuses on reducing the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) by 75 percent between 1990 and 2015 and ensuring universal access to reproductive health by 2015.9
* International funding from public and private donors and other non-governmental organizations accounts for only 15 percent of the expenditures on reproductive health and family planning activities in developing countries.10 The majority of spending comes from within the countries themselves, with more than half coming from consumers' pockets

Bronzers .beauty tips

Saturday, September 26, 2009 0 comments

In today’s world of Intense Fashion, there would hardly be any woman who would not be familiar with the term Bronzers. However, for those of you who are not sure about what exactly is the purpose of bronzers, let us take a quick look at its definition and purpose.
Bronzer is actually a thick powder like substance which resembles the powdery foundation. However, it acts opposite to the foundation. Where foundation is used to make your skin look brighter or adjust it to the color of make up, bronzers help to tan your skin without getting a sun bath. Therefore you dont have to walk to the shop in downtown, to go and lay down in the ultraviolet tanning bed. In fact you can tan yourself according to your desire easily by using the bronzers. Bronzer comes in different colors, depending on how much tan you want to look. Bronzers are coming in different types now. Some of the most popular ones can be categorized as:
* Powder Bronzer: Powder bronzers are just like the thick powder foundation and they are perhaps the most common type of bronzer around. They are ideal for people who have an oily skin and who are finding it hard to find a perfect solution for their skin. Powder bronzers can be applied easily within seconds and they can be applied all over the skin.
* Moisturizing Bronzer: These are also known as cream bronzers. These are meant to be used by people who are having a dry skin. If you have an oily skin and you pick up a cream/moisturizing bronzer, you would find it very excessive. The skin would really look like a complete mess. However, one good thing about the cream bronzers is the fact that they can help to highlight each particular feature of skin in an excellent manner.
* Gel Bronzer: Gel or fluid bronzer is another addition to the variety of bronzers available. Gel bronzer can be applied to your skin along with the foundation as well. It quickly absorbs in your skin.
Some of the useful tips while applying a bronzer would include:
* While applying a bronzer always spread the bronzer with brush in a circular motion. This helps you to evenly spread it all around your skin. This also helps to highlight the features of your face.
* If you are not sure about what color or density of bronzer you should use, try to go for multi-tonal bronzer. It will readily mix with your skin color.
* If you are not sure about what kind of bronzer you should apply to your skin, check for your complexion as pinkish skin normally goes with a bronzer which has a blend of pink in it. However, if you have an olive color skin, try to go for honey or orange blend.
* Although it might sound a bit too over conscious but try to go for a bronzer which comes with SPF. This helps to have maximum protection against the UV rays.

Beauty For Women

Binge-eating followed by purging with self-induced vomiting and the compulsive use of laxatives, are warning signs of this condition. Its causes include low body image and a feeling of not being in control. It is often associated with anorexia.
Supta Baddhakonasana(Reclining fixed angle pose)
The pose also improves blood circulation in the abdomen, massaging and toning the abdominal organs.Required a bolster, blanket, a yoga belt and two wooden blocks. The bolster supports the back and lifts the chest. The blanket supports the head, alleviating stress and heaviness in the head and neck. The belt helps maintain the angle of the legs easily and holds the feet together. The wooden blocks supports the thighs, reducing strain in the groin.

1. Sit in Dandasana. Place a bolster behind you, its short end against your buttocks, and place a folded blanket on its far end. Place 2 wooden blocks on their broad sides on either side of your hips. Bend your knees, and join the soles of your feet together. Draw your heels toward your groin. Buckle the belt and loop it over your shoulders.

2. Bring the belt down to below your waist. Pass it under both feet to stretch it over your ankles and the insides of the thighs. Move your feet closer to your groin. The belt should feel neither too tight nor too slack, so adjust the buckle accordingly. Make sure that the end of the bolster touches your buttocks. Position a block under each thigh.

3. Place your elbows on the floor, and lower your head and back onto the bolster. Make sure that the bolster comfortably supports the length of your back and your head. Your spine should be on the centre of the bolster. Stretch your arms out to the sides, with the palms facing the ceiling. Relax, and extend your groin out to the sides. Feel the expansion of the pelvis, and the release of tension in your ankles and knees. Initially, stay in the pose for 1 minute. With practice, increase the duration to 5-10 minutes.
CAUTIONS
Do not practice this asana if you have lower backache or poor bladder control. If you feel any strain while getting into the pose, use two bolsters instead of one. If you feel strain in the region of the groin, place a folded towel or blanket on both blocks placed below the knees.

Public health campaigns use sport to motivate communities to consider top priority health concerns. A number of large-scale initiatives and targeted partnership approaches promote the health benefits of participation in sport and physical activityIn 2002, the World Health Organisation deemed ‘Physical Activity’ the theme of World Health Day. Since that time, April 6th is celebrated as the World Day for Physical Activity. This is an excellent example of a global initiative aimed at promoting health through physical activity across populations.
To reduce the burden of disease world-wide, the World Health Organisation introduced a global strategy in 2004. The Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health is a large-scale initiative aimed at promoting health enhancing physical activity and supporting policy development and research.
Collaborative efforts between organisations focusing on sport or health are necessary in ensuring that sport-for-health initiatives are more likely to achieve success. For example, UNICEF has used sport to raise awareness on immunisation and organised sports events for vaccination campaigns in Zambia against measles. Renowned sports stars in various sports promoted the health campaign through which approximately 5 million children were vaccinated in 2003.
Similarly, during the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the cricket teams from India and Pakistan together promoted the national polio eradication campaign in television commercials, competitions and events in the weeks leading up to the tournament.
In 2004, UNAIDS and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) began to collaborate to use sport as a tool for HIV/AIDS prevention. They jointly produced the toolkit on HIV/AIDS Prevention for the sports community and established an intensive communication and awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS prevention through sport during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

There are 1,440 minutes in every day. Schedule 30 of them for physical activity!
Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy. People who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. It can delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.
Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week. Examples include walking briskly, mowing the lawn, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling. Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.
The key is to find the right exercise for you. If it is fun, you are more likely to stay motivated. You may want to walk with a friend, join a class or plan a group bike ride. If you've been inactive for awhile, use a sensible approach and start out slowly.

Natural Face Care

There are thousands of skin irritants in our modern environment that didn't exist only 50 years ago. These irritants can strip the protective barrier off your skin causing dry skin, eczema and other skin problems. These changes in our environment have brought about the need for a new type of dry skin care solution – a shielding lotion.
Shampoos, antibacterial soaps, cosmetics, fragrances, colorants and other irritants bombard and penetrate the skin. These harsh chemicals and irritants can break down the skin's natural protective ability. Some strip away moisture, while others lodge in the pores where they cause irritation and other negative reactions.
Unfortunately, traditional lotions have one basic goal - to simply make up for the moisture that our bodies are losing by adding an external source of moisture. Many common household products and even soaps are absorbed directly into your skin, causing skin disorders or just plain dry cracked skin. Also, when participating in other activities from gardening to painting, furniture restoration to fishing, or exposure to harsh weather, you are further drying and irritating your skin. What Dermatologists Say
"Your skin wasn't designed to deal with soap and the thousands of other everyday chemicals," explains Dr. Peter Helton, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic dermatology. "Nearly everyone's skin is exposed to harmful chemicals on and off the job. That is why Shielding Lotions are so important."
According to Dr. Helton, shielding lotions help prevent damage to the skin by bonding with and protecting the skin. "They not only add moisture, but also help stop the loss of your natural moisture."
Skin needs help to keep out these moisture-robbing irritants. A fundamental difference between Shielding Lotions and traditional lotions is that a Shielding Lotion enhances the skin's own natural protective abilities by turning the outer layer of skin into what could be described as a hydrating invisible shield. This makes Shielding Lotions many times more effective than mere "protective lotions and moisturizing creams".
"Shielding lotion is a lotion that forms a protective barrier on the skin and keeps out irritants and chemicals. It also allows the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better. It is a big advantage that shielding lotions are light and go on without a greasy mess," says Dr. Brian Zogg, a dermatologist in Albert Lea, MN.
"When you have dry, itchy skin you know that the protective outer layer of skin has been stripped away. In southern Minnesota most people need to use a shielding lotion. In the winter they all get very dry skin. We also recommend shielding lotions for anyone who is exposed to chemicals in their work environment. Your skin is exposed to irritants and chemicals almost every day, even in a normal household environment, so a shielding lotion can be a useful dry skin care solution for most people.. And it won't create the negative moisture message skin can get from conventional lotions.
The artificial moisturizers in conventional creams and lotions can send a signal to the moisture producing parts of your skin that enough moisture is present. Your skin then makes less of the natural moisture needed to resolve a dry skin problem. With a shielding lotion you protect your own natural oils and moisture in the skin, so it heals faster," says Dr. Zogg.
"A conventional lotion is not formulated to protect the skin like a shielding lotion does. Conventional lotions only add surface moisture to temporarily alleviate dry skin or itching. Shielding lotions stay on because they bond with the skin and protect it for long periods of time. With this protection in place your skin keeps its own moisture in and has a chance to use this natural moisture in the deep layers of the skin to heal itself," states Dr. Lisa Benest, a board certified dermatologist of Burbank, CA.

Natural Face Care

Diet plays an important role in maintaining the health of the skin. Diet should supply all the nutrients needed to build health, namely, protein, carbohydrates, fats, essential fatty acids and all the essential vitamins and minerals. Such a diet will consist of liberal quantities of seeds, nuts and grains, vegetables and fruits, supplemented by special protective foods like milk, vegetable oils, yogurt, honey and yeast.
aNutrients play an important role in maintaining a healthy skin.
Examples:
Your skin is unusually dry and rough. You have blackheads and whiteheads. You are probably lacking sufficient vitamin A. You could also be suffering from the deficiencies in iron, iodine and the B Vitamins. Adequate amounts of protein and vitamin C are also important.
The vitamins of the B group are important in producing beautiful skin.
Vitamin B1 aids skin health by helping to keep the circulation normal.
Vitamin B2 or riboflavin deficiency can lead to brown pigmentation, or liver spots on the skin. These ugly spots usually disappear if generous amounts of vitamin B2 are given over a period of six months. Severe riboflavin deficiency can lead to oily skin and hair and small deposits of fat under the skin of the cheeks and forehead and behind the ears. More severe deficiency of riboflavin causes the skin under the nose and at the comers of the eyes and mouth to crack and become sore.
Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine deficiency can result in dermatitis or eczema.
Niacin deficiency can also cause an eczema type of skin eruption with brown pigmentation, largely on the face, forearms and legs.
Deficiency of pantothenic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid, and biotin: This also leads to types of eczema. The symptoms will go away completely when these vitamins are generously added to the diet.
It is clear that Vitamin B plays a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy skin. So, diet that is rich in Vitamin B can go a long way in skin health. One of the important food in this connection is brewer's yeast. Even the person whose skin seems smooth and healthy usually notices improvement in texture and glow, a week after adding two or more tablespoons of brewer's yeast to the daily diet. Persons with eczema should, for an entire month, take a tablespoon of yeast stirred into citrus juice or water after each meal, between meals, and before retiring. If the diet is adequate in all other respects, the eczema is usually cured in a month 's time.
Anemia and Pale Skin: Anemia results from lack of protein, iodine, calcium, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folic acid, cobalt, copper, and iron. Take diet rich in Vitamin B. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are especially important

Eye Lashes

Losing an eye lash here and there happens to all of us. It is perfectly normal to lose one or two eyelashes. A new eye lash will grow back in the hair follicle and replace the old one. As a person ages their eyelashes tend to thin out, this is normal process. But, some people lose eye lashes in clumps and they do not grow back. If this happens suddenly, you may be feeling confused and afraid.
Here is what you should consider if you lose a lot of eyelashes at once.
Alopecia areata could be the cause of losing your eyelashes. It is an autoimmune disease usually striking the scalp and causing your hair to fall out in clumps. This hair does not grow back. It can also cause eye lashes and eye brows to fall out and not grow back. There is no cure, but a dermatologist can give you shots of cortisone to prevent further damage to hair follicles.Eye lashes that are falling out in clumps is a good indicator that you may have hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a condition of an underactive thyroid which causes
many complications and symptoms mostly in women. Get your thyroid checked by your doctor (he will do a simple blood test)and he can put you on medication to get your
thyroid back in gear and help alleviate sparse eye lashes.
Something that all of us can do to protect our eye lashes is to treat them with care. A lifetime of using an eyelash curler or pulling and playing with them can cause them to
fall out. Continual trauma to hair follicles can do permanent damage. Only curl your lashes on special occasions or use one of the new curling wand mascaras to protect your eye lashes.
